How Diamond State Aquatics Grew To 200 Athletes Since Founding in 2021
Born out of Covid and Thriving in 2026 - The story of Diamond State Aquatics
Diamond State Aquatics (DSA) in Wilmington and Middletown, Delaware, has seen explosive growth since its founding in 2021. But with that growth came a common operational headache: managing competitive teams, masters and swim lessons across different platforms.
We sat down with Zach Nerwinski, Program Director at DSA, to discuss how moving to Captyn unified their operations and unlocked new revenue streams they hadn't even considered.
The Challenge: A Divided Digital Experience
Before Captyn, DSA was using two different softwares to manage their 200 competitive athletes and 150 lesson students. This fragmentation created friction for both staff and families.
"If you were in the competitive programs, you were using one program and then the lessons were in a separate program," Zach explained. "You had to explain to families, 'Actually you have to make a whole different login. You have to use a whole different program that you're not used to.'"
The Solution: Everything Under One Roof
The primary goal for DSA was simple: bring every swimmer, every invoice, and every schedule into one place. Captyn provided the "all under one roof" experience they needed.
"To bring that all under the same roof for a family to see on their invoice or on their account... Jack has lessons on Tuesday, Chris has a swim team on Wednesday, Friday. It's all under one roof, which has been really, really great."
A Seamless Transition
Switching software can be daunting, but for DSA, the migration was impressively smooth. Zach highlighted the support from the Captyn team as a key factor in their success.
"It was really impressive how much you guys helped us out... for the most part, everything was already there. We obviously just had to do some easy verifications... things were pretty seamless."
Even complex billing requirements, like managing automatic discounts for their country club members, became a point-and-click solution rather than a manual back-end chore.
Unlocking Hidden Revenue
While the goal was efficiency, the result was growth. By putting lessons and competitive programs in the same interface, DSA saw an immediate increase in private lesson bookings from their competitive swimmers.
"I really think that having the lessons and competitive programs together has made the competitive swimmers way more likely to take lessons... we didn't really think about it in reverse. The competitive swimmers are now much more likely to take lessons just because of the simplicity of it."
Looking Ahead
With a unified system and a "Today Screen" that gives staff instant visibility into daily operations, Diamond State Aquatics is better equipped than ever to handle their continued expansion.
For DSA, Captyn wasn't just a software switch: it was a strategic move that simplified life for parents and boosted the bottom line for the program.
