How Fusion Swim Team Unified All Team Operations in One Platform

“Captyn makes essential administrative tasks effortless so we can spend our energy growing the sport and supporting our athletes — not sitting behind a computer.”

From Rec Roots to Regional Reach

Founded in 1958 as the Warner Robins Aquanauts, Swim FST began as a modest rec team. Today, thanks to strategic leadership and a commitment to excellence, the team has grown to serve over 250 athletes across multiple locations in middle Georgia. That transformation is due in no small part to the efforts of Amanda Hamborg and her husband Wes, the team’s head coach.

With Amanda’s background in business administration, she joined the team officially about a decade ago to take pressure off the coaching staff and bring professional-grade operations to the club’s backend. “Coaches are great at what they do, but that’s not always administration,” Amanda shared. “We wanted to treat the swim team like a business so our coaches could focus on coaching.”

A Unique Role in Middle Georgia

Swim FST occupies a rare and important position in the landscape of youth sports — they are the only competitive swim team within a one-hour radius in middle Georgia. In a region where swimming has traditionally lacked visibility and access, their presence has become foundational for the growth of the sport.

For years, the team trained in an outdoor, six-lane pool that wasn’t even certified to host official meets. “It was a quarter of an inch too short for certification,” Amanda explains. Without the ability to run sanctioned competitions, they relied on creative workarounds like USA Swimming’s “block party” format to provide racing opportunities — but it limited what they could offer to swimmers and families.

Everything changed with the opening of a certified 50-meter indoor facility and the team’s merger with nearby Swim Macon in 2024. Those two milestones — improved infrastructure and regional consolidation — allowed Swim FST to expand programming, reintroduce lessons, host meets, and serve more athletes across county lines.

But with growth came a deeper realization: their real competition wasn’t other swim teams — it was the dozens of other activities that families consider for their kids.

“We’re not just competing with other swim teams,” Amanda says. “Our competition is little league soccer. We need to make swimming as easy to sign up for as soccer. It’s our responsibility to grow the sport and give families a chance to access swimming — a life-saving skill.”

That mindset — to meet families where they are and make swimming accessible, approachable, and simple to engage with — became central to Swim FST’s strategy.

Amanda knew that delivering a great in-pool experience wasn’t enough. If learning about programs and registering online felt clunky, confusing, or outdated, many families would simply choose something else. Unfortunately, the tools they were using — from their website to their registration and communication systems — were doing exactly that.

It was clear: if Swim FST was going to grow swimming in middle Georgia, they needed a modern platform built to match their mission.

The Administrative Struggle: Life Before Captyn

Despite their momentum, Swim FST was hitting operational bottlenecks.

Amanda and her team were using legacy tools that lacked flexibility and mobile access. Administrative work like billing changes, meet communication, or scheduling had to be done from a desktop — often after hours. The tools they were using couldn’t handle their evolving needs, especially as they expanded into new facilities and began planning a relaunch of their lesson program.

“If I needed to drop a swimmer from the team, or move a family to a different training group, I had to wait until I got home. I’d have to zoom in and out of this impossible grid on my phone and just hope I didn’t hit the wrong button.”

Even routine processes like swim meet declarations were a source of stress. Amanda had to manually create reminders, checklists, and follow-ups for every event. If she missed a reminder or got sick, parents might miss deadlines — and swimmers would miss opportunities.

Their lesson program in particular was a pain point. The private lesson platform inherited from their Macon facility was confusing and time-consuming.

“I’m a systems person. I want to build something once and move on. That lesson system was so cumbersome it required constant work — and even then, it didn’t work well.”

The team was also constrained by a website and registration process that didn’t reflect the level of professionalism Swim FST brought to their programming. Amanda saw a missed opportunity:

“Parents trust you based on your appearance. And if your website is confusing, or your fonts look like they’re from 2004, they don’t feel confident registering. We wanted a system that matched the quality of what we were delivering in the water.”

These challenges weren’t just inconveniences — they were actively holding the team back from scaling their impact in a region that deeply needed it.

The Captyn Difference

Swim FST turned to Captyn to modernize operations and unify communication, registration, and administrative workflows. The impact was immediate and multifaceted.

  • Automated Workflows = More Brainspace
Amanda uses Captyn’s scheduling tools and automation to manage meet registrations, reminders, and texts without manually revisiting them.

“I can schedule all my reminders at once — emails, texts, dashboard flags. It frees up my mind to focus on the bigger picture, not repetitive tasks.”

  • A Website Parents Actually Love
Swim FST parents raved about the intuitive interface and self-service capabilities. New members found it easy to register, communicate, and access information — key to converting visitors into lifelong participants.

“People trust your program based on appearance. With Captyn, our website and registration process look polished and professional. That builds trust.”

  • Total Control On the Go
From roster updates to group changes to handling season holds, Amanda now manages the entire backend from her phone — a sharp contrast to the mobile-unfriendly systems of the past.

“TeamUnify on mobile was basically unusable. Now I can make any change instantly, even from the pool deck or carpool line.”

  • Swim Lessons Rebooted
When Swim FST relaunched their lesson program using SwimAmerica in summer 2025, Captyn’s private and group lesson functionality made the rollout seamless.

“We’re teaching swimming the right way, and Captyn makes it easy. It’s clear, professional, and efficient — parents and instructors love it.”

Final Thoughts

Swim FST may be the only competitive team in middle Georgia — but they don’t act like it. With Captyn powering their operations, Amanda and her team are not just running a swim team — they’re building a swimming community.

If you’re looking to streamline operations, improve member experience, and scale with confidence, Swim FST’s story is proof: Captyn helps teams operate like pros — so they can grow like champions.
